An anal abscess is an infected cavity filled with pus present near the anus or rectum. An anal fistula is an abnormal channel that originates between the end of the bowel and the skin near the anus. Is painful, shows bleeding and discharge when passing stools.
Surgery is required to treat anal fistula as they don’t heal by themselves. Surgical drainage is adopted for anal abscess treatment under most circumstances.
Anal Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells in or around the anus or anal canal. Most times, the symptoms are mistaken for less serious conditions such as piles leading to more than 50% anal cancers progressive to advanced stages.
There are 3 options for anal cancer treatment or its combination:
Surgery: Surgical removal of anus or part of it. Sometimes necessitated with/without removal of part of the colon containing cancer and nearby healthy tissue, a stoma is created, and a colostomy bag is attached to the stoma.
Radiation Therapy: High-dose X-rays are used to kill the cancer cells.
Chemotherapy:Medications are given, usually intravenously (directly into a vein), to kill cancer cells.
Hemorrhoids (Piles) are swollen and inflamed veins in anus/ lower rectum; most often result from straining during bowel movements. Hemorrhoids can be internal (inside the rectum) or external (under the anal skin). One in two adults is likely to develop hemorrhoids by the age 50.
When lifestyle changes can’t provide relief, surgery may be required; involving removal of the hemorrhoid or stapling. Our doctors will discuss the right option for you.
A pilonidal sinus is a small hole or “tunnel” in the skin that develops in the cleft of the buttocks where the buttocks separate; usually gets infected causing a pus-filled abscess.
Infected Pilonidal Sinus may require surgical intervention to include incision on the sinus and drainage of an abscess.
